I've been spending the winter/spring covering the Portland Trailblazers for our weekly newspaper The Portland Mercury. It's been a great gig as I get to attend all of the home games and have locker room access. I'm not a huge sports fan in general, but I love The Trailblazers and enjoy writing about basketball culture. If you are interested in seeing the articles they can be found here.

In 1980 my mother moved from rural Maine to NYC with two young children and she slept on a pull-out couch in the living room while attending art-school and working nights. She wanted to make a real and lasting mark on the art world. Now, some 36 years later, this is actually happening.

"Turtleface and Beyond" has been named as a finalist for the Ken Kesey Award for fiction, to be announced at the Oregon Book Award ceremony on April 11th, 2016. The book has also made several year end top ten lists, including this one. Yes!
I will be at Wordstock, the big Portland literary gathering, for two events.
