How About a Little Badass Inspiration?


In 1980 my mother moved from rural Maine to NYC with two young children and she slept on a pull-out couch in the living room while attending art-school and working nights. She wanted to make a real and lasting mark on the art world. Now, some 36 years later, this is actually happening.

"Turtleface" named top ten book of 2016, nominated for Oregon Book Award

"Turtleface and Beyond" has been named as a finalist for the Ken Kesey Award for fiction, to be announced at the Oregon Book Award ceremony on April 11th, 2016.  The book has also made several year end top ten lists, including this one.  Yes!





New Book - 43 Monsters, children's version

A new version of my collaboration with artist Chuck Webster is out with Manic D Press.  This book consists of 43 monster drawings done by Chuck when he was a young boy.  I wrote the text.  Get it here!

Appearing at Wordstock

I will be at Wordstock, the big Portland literary gathering, for two events.  

First, as part of the always fun, "Russian Roulette" show at 9pm at The Mission Theater on Friday Nov. 6th.  Info here.

Second, as part of a panel talking about short story collections at 11am on Saturday Nov. 7th at McMenamins Stage at the Whitsell Auditorium (Portland Art Museum, Main Building, Lower Level).  Info about that here.
