Poker is a card game in which players place chips (representing money) into a pot. They then draw cards and try to make the best hand possible. The highest hand wins the pot. Poker can be played with 2 to 14 players. It can be a very social and entertaining game to play.<\/p>\n
The game is dealt from a standard deck of 52 cards, with some games using wild cards or different suits. Each player is dealt five cards. If the highest hand is a pair, a straight, three of a kind or four of a kind, then that hand wins. If the hands are tied, then a high card is used to break the tie.<\/p>\n
Depending on the rules of the specific poker variant being played, one player may be required to place a forced contribution into the pot before the cards are even dealt. This is called an ante or blind bet. Once the betting starts, the player on the chair to the right of the dealer cuts the deck and then deals each player a set number of cards. These cards can be either face up or down, depending on the specific variant being played.<\/p>\n
Once a player has been dealt their cards, they can either choose to “call” the bet of the person on their left by putting in the same number of chips; raise the bet of the person on their left (which is known as raising); or drop (or fold).
