Casino Review

Casino

Whether it’s playing online slots, blackjack or poker, there’s something about casino games that makes people feel good. These activities stimulate the brain to release feel-good hormones that relieve stress, improve concentration and cognitive function. They’re a form of escapism that lets us leave our daily struggles behind for a bit and enjoy the thrill of an adrenaline rush.

Stepping into a casino is like stepping into an alternate reality. Dazzling lights, flashy decor and the sound of coins clinking create an intoxicating atmosphere that draws in even the most skeptical individuals. From the seasoned gamblers who strut their stuff with confidence to those trying to win back their losses, everyone is here for one thing – to have fun!

Casino takes place at the fictional Tangiers in Las Vegas and revolves around Sam ‘Ace’ Rothstein (De Niro), his wife Ginger and volatile hustler Nicky Santoro. Ace’s job is to keep the cash-flow at the Casino steady enough to satisfy his bosses back home but he can’t seem to do it.

Despite the many overlapping story lines, Scorsese manages to convey the feeling of nostalgia with the casino’s setting. He also evokes an uneasy skepticism of what will replace it, as evident in the movie’s final scene over images of the Tangiers’ demolition. But it’s Sharon Stone’s performance that really elevates the film to another level. She is utterly brilliant and she should have won the Oscar for this performance.
